Following 8 years working in high potential, growth orientated technology companies in the UK and Ireland, qualifying as a Chartered Management Accountant in 2002 and then 12 years as M&A Director with BDO, Sam left professional services in order to get closer to the businesses he enjoys working with.
Firstly, he joined JLA, a successful mid-market private equity backed, support services business to lead their M&A strategy as Corporate Development Director. In that role his core focus was talking with a wide range of owner managed businesses, ensuring JLA were front of mind if a trade sale ever became an option. More recently, Sam has been working with a variety of owner managed businesses as either a consultant or Non-Exec Director supporting their growth and development aspirations.
The flexibility, constant mix of work and value-add that Sam can provide is what attracts him to this type of work. His skill set is very much focused around SMEs that are going through some sort of change, whether that is fund raising, acquisitions, divestments, retirement, continuity or exit planning. He has worked with a wide variety of businesses, always engaged at senior Board level to deliver strategic advice. Sectors where he has most direct experience include; transport, logistics and supply chain; wider support services; and energy and renewable energy; although he has touched many other sectors from his time in professional services.
