Richard is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales having qualified as a national Institute prize winner in 1992. In his early career he worked for KPMG as a senior manager overseeing the provision of audit and advisory services across the North of England to entrepreneurial businesses. It is during this time that he developed a passion for entrepreneurial businesses generally in the region of £2m to £60m revenues.
He joined his first such business in 1998 as Finance Director and over the next five years worked with the board to restructure the group to release working capital whilst achieving double digit sales and profit growth and reducing net debt. His next FD role was for a privately backed laboratory business which achieved ten acquisitions in three years before being sold for a significant return for investors.
In 2008 he started to offer portfolio finance director services to a range of clients many of whom had private or institutional investors as well as some that were AIM listed. In that time he led a management buyout of a promotional merchandising business which he chaired and expanded into the US until a profitable exit in 2018. In 2020 he joined a charitable Educational Academy Trust as a volunteer Trustee.
Richard has experienced the highs and lows of managing and owning businesses, formulating strategy, delivering growth and successful exit strategies, and he brings a wealth of knowledge to every engagement that he takes on. He is a keen sportsman, good communicator and an accountant that has a sharp commercial approach to corporate leadership.
