Mike qualified in the profession in 1983 and gained a Loughborough MBA with distinction in 1994.
A series of early career moves including Chief Accountant for Texas Homecare (50 new stores built and 20 by acquisition) and Head of Financial Planning for Pearl Assurance (lead manager for three strategic projects with McKinsey) led to the appointment as Group FD for Virgin Direct (now Virgin Money) in 1996. This most formative role involved six-fold growth in three years and with numerous new product launches, including the highly-acclaimed Virgin One Account.
Subsequent extensive experience as an interim manager at Board or first report level – from the flotation of Nettec plc, rebuilding of the finance team for Liberty International (FTSE 100), re-shaping and selling Page and Moy Retail Travel to guiding high-growth in Mimecast (NASDAQ) SAAS business. Mike has also enjoyed the responsibility for managing sales call centres, customer services, customer complaints and human resource teams. Prior to joining The FD Centre Mike has guided L2S2, a Cambridge-based early-stage software business, as FD and shareholder, through £3m investment to product launch.
In all roles Mike has worked tirelessly to ensure that goals are understood, and that the various functional areas work collaboratively to achieve them, through first-class analysis, educating and influencing colleagues.
