My career began in audit and I qualified as a chartered accountant with PWC. Probably more importantly though was the first 18 months of training which I had with PKF working in a regional office doing real accounting and bookkeeping. This background has stood me well in my career but I am far more than an accountant and consider myself a fully rounded commercially astute professional. Having spent the last 10 years working with a Mutual Society I am fully committed to firms that have a social purpose beyond just trying to make a profit, I am a firm believer in social good and social capital and personally work to the highest ethical standards.
In 2014 I became a chartered director (awarded chartered director of the year in 2015) and have over the last 4 years served on the Board of Metropolitan Police Friendly Society and in that time have progressed to Chair of the Audit and Compliance committee.
There is very little I have not done in my career, I’ve led HR, IT, operations and even sales as well as obviously finance. Within finance I specialise in strategy, business planning and investment management, but I am most proud of how I build teams and get the most out of them by hard work and leading by example. I have no problem with rolling my sleeves up and reconciling a ledger or posting journals and an hour later sitting in a Board meeting discussing strategy.
I know I have the skills to help other firms grow and if I can find one that has a sound moral compass aligned to my own I think we could do great things together. In my last 2 full time positions (both lasting almost 10 years each) the firms have grown exponentially and I am proud of the part I have played in their success.
