Jo is a graduate Chartered Accountant with over 25 years’ industry experience and nearly 20 years at Board level. Jo has extensive experience of VC-backed business and is strong in the management of working capital and cash during intensely different periods of trade. She prides herself on producing informative and relevant management reporting to financial and non-financial stakeholders. She has experience of MBO, acquisition and sale processes including refinancing and due diligence. Jo has always maintained good relationships with external stakeholders including bankers, auditors and other advisors. She is an excellent communicator and is especially skilled at communicating financial issues to non-financial personnel.
Jo has spent the last 19 years with the Blaze Signs Holdings Group, a VC-backed sign manufacturing, installation and maintenance business, servicing companies in the retail, finance and leisure sectors, including blue-chip names such as Sainsbury, Tesco, Waitrose and Lloyds. Jo was a key driver in negotiating the refinancing of a secondary MBO in 2006, supported by a new VC house and bank. Blaze then raised further VC and bank finance to support the acquisition of a sign manufacturing business in 2007.
Jo helped see the business through the recession of 2007-08, managing the relationships with banks and suppliers, controlling cash flows and then managing Blaze through to a period of intense growth with work for London 2012 Olympics and the rebrand of Lloyds TSB to Lloyds. Later she was key to the marketing and delivery of the final sale of the business to a new VC house in 2020, including managing the extensive due diligence process.
Jo graduated from the University of Bath with a First Class degree in Mathematics. After a brief spell in IT, she then qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG in Kent. Not long after she then made the move into commerce with Shepherd Neame Limited, the Kent-based family brewer. She has also since also worked for a listed newspaper group, Adscene plc, and an owner-managed recruitment business.
As well as her commercial experience, Jo has held a number of voluntary charitable posts, mostly as Honorary Treasurer and Trustee on main Boards.
When not working, Jo is a keen horse-rider and competes her mare in Trec, a form of orienteering on horseback.
