Chris has a wide range of experience across many sectors and sizes of businesses. Most recently, Chris was Finance Director of Lombok, a luxury furniture retailer with considerable e-commerce sales alongside a flagship store in central London. With experience at OC&C Strategy Consultants and The Foundation, he brings a different perspective to the finance function and general business decision-making.
Chris comes with broad management experience in addition to his core finance skills and was Managing Director of a coffee roasting business for five years. Alongside his finance positions, he has always had a strong link with and influence over wider business issues, often having line responsibility for functions such as IT, customer services and stock replenishment. After graduating from Oxford University with a degree in Engineering, Economics and Management, his ACA qualification was gained at Coopers & Lybrand. His early experience was in corporate FMCG retail at Safeway and McVities where he was also the first senior Finance Controller for the sales division when they were taking on profit responsibility for the first time. His breadth of experience and communication skills led him to being selected as the first Finance Director in three SME businesses varying from £1m turnover to £60m turnover across IT services, “dotcom”, and jewellery & accessory wholesale businesses.
With an eye on the detail and a strategic perspective, Chris is able to bring a strong hand to the tiller and a wealth of experience to business planning, cash management, KPI development and other finance functions. He has successfully raised several millions of pounds in funding rounds with investors and debt providers with experience working with formal Corporate Finance companies as well as softer “internal” fundraising from existing investors.
He is very “hands-on” and enjoys bringing the benefits of a strong commercial finance function to all parts of businesses to align management teams and improve decision making.
