“Space Syntax Limited, an architectural consultancy, has for some time recognised the benefits of having a part-time Finance Director. In January 2007 we met with the FD Centre and shortly after Chris Bell, an FD Centre Principal, joined us as Part-Time Finance Director.
Chris initially carried out a two day review of Space Syntax’s business which proved an invaluable introduction to Chris and the FD Centre and it was clear from that initial review he had gained a good understanding of our business and the issues facing us at that time.
Since that time Chris has spent 3-4 days a months with us and has been involved in a number of aspects of our business, including:
- Becoming a member of the management team and providing input into the strategic direction of the company
- Contributing to monthly board meetings
- Ensuring timely and meaningful monthly management accounts
- Managing and training the company’s bookkeeper
- Annual budget preparation and monitoring
- Managing the company’s cash resources
- Developing, in conjunction with our operations staff, new systems to record and control time and expense costs on projects
- Liaising with the company’s bankers and external accountants.
