
Alan graduated in Economics from Heriot Watt before becoming a chartered accountant with Geoghegans in Edinburgh. From there he joined Ernst & Whinney in Johannesburg before moving to Gold Fields, the 2nd largest mining house in the world at that time.
He returned to the UK to join Babcock during which time he was involved in many large scale projects including the privatisation of Rosyth Royal Dockyard in 1997. Alan went on to help Babcock acquire a number of companies as part of a diversification strategy that led to an interim role in managing their dockyard operation in Auckland.
Recent years have been spent developing his business consultancy and helping a number of SMEs with financing, accounting services and succession planning including an MBO within the energy services sector.
Alan particularly enjoys the challenges of business growth and has been involved in establishing a number of start-up ventures and has an interest in the social enterprise sector.
